Even though Odisha has been having a mild winter, over the past 24 hours, thick fog has covered numerous areas of the state. G Udayagiri had a minimum temperature (nighttime temperature) of 7°C, making it the coldest spot in the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that over the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature in at least seven locations in Odisha has varied between 7°C and 11°C.

The lowest temperature recorded was 8.2°C in Koraput, with subsequent readings of 9°C in Daringbadi, 9.7°C in Semiliguda, 10.9°C in Keonjhar, 11°C in Angul and Ranital, and 11.3°C in Kirei. Each of the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar registered 15°C.

The likelihood of a major shift in the state during the next five days was ruled out by the IMD on Friday. However, in a number of locations throughout the state, the lowest temperature is probably going to be 2–3°C above average.

In the meantime, there was a lot of fog on Friday morning in numerous parts of Odisha, including Rourkela. Furthermore, Jharsuguda, Paradip, Koraput, Bhawanipatna, and Keonjhar saw shallow to moderate fog. The meteorological bureau issued yellow warnings of heavy fog for two more days and predicted light showers in certain areas of Odisha.

Between January 5 and January 6, the IMD predicts that there may be light rain or thundershowers at one or two locations in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. A cautionary yellow alert for dense  fog has been issued for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Koraput and Nabarangpur.

At the same time, shallow to moderate fog may occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, and at one or two places in remaining districts of Odisha.
