A low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal, and it is expected to move northwestward by October 21 morning, intensifying into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal around October 23, according to the latest weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.
At the same time, the IMD’s regional center has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers in various regions of Odisha during the Durga Puja festivities, causing great concern among devotees and puja revelers.
This cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal is not an isolated episode, as the IMD has predicted the formation of another cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal’s eastern region. The low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal may gradually move towards Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, a low-pressure area emerged over the southeast and adjoining southwest Arabian Seas, and it is expected to move west-northwestward. It is expected to deepen into a depression over the Arabian Sea around October 23, delivering rain to various coastal areas in western India.
