An active low-pressure region over the Bay of Bengal is causing continuous rain in some places of Odisha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the low pressure would deepen into a depression on Wednesday, resulting in heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Odisha for the next few days.
For Wednesday and Thursday, the IMD has issued an orange warning for severe to very heavy rain in five districts of Odisha. Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabrangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri are among the five districts.
A yellow alert has also been issued for seven districts.
Heavy rain is expected across Odisha on July 26, with heavy to very heavy rain expected over several portions of south and coastal Odisha, according to Umashankar Das, Senior Scientist, IMD, Bhubaneswar, who also advised fisherman not to venture into the sea until July 27.
Meanwhile, the meteorological service forecasted that heavy rain would persist in numerous regions across the state until July 29. The wind speed along the Odisha coast would be 45 to 55 kmph at this time.
