The well-marked low-pressure region over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near the shores of north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha moved west-northwestward, intensifying into a depression, according to the India Meteorological Department.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure system is predicted to continue west-northwestward and make landfall between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur, near Kalingapatnam, around midnight tonight, hitting the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha.
“It is likely to move further west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur close to Kalingapatnam around midnight of today, the 31st August 2024”, tweeted the regional office of IMD.
Due to low pressure, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, and Koraput districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rains today. The IMD has issued an orange alert for these three districts.
Similarly, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Balangir districts have also been issued yellow warnings for heavy rainfall today.
