Even as a strong heatwave scorches Odisha, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that residents would soon be relieved of the uncomfortable weather conditions. According to the IMD, kalbaisakhi is likely to cause a 1°C to 2°C reduction in maximum temperatures in various coastal Odisha districts.
However, the interior and western parts of Odisha will continue to endure heatwaves.
Odisha has been facing excessive heat and humidity for the past 17 days, interrupting normal living.
The maximum temperature (day temperature) will dip by 3°C to 4°C by May 6, according to the IMD, as moisture-laden air continues to approach southern Odisha from neighboring regions. This caused kalbaisakhi rains in some parts of Odisha on Wednesday and Thursday.
Meanwhile, Bolangir turned to be the hottest area of the state with maximum temperature at 45°C while 29 cities of Odisha recorded a daily temperature of above 40°C on Thursday.
