The wet spell in Odisha will last five days, and several parts of the state may see mild to moderate rain or thundershowers this week. While the next two days will see moderate rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow notice for thundershowers with lightning in various Odisha districts in the coming days.
So far in August, the state has received typical rainfall between August 1 and August 20. The average rainfall was 253.2 mm, which is 1% higher than the typical rainfall of 250.8 mm.
The weather prediction by the IMD for the week is as below:
Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 21.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is very likely to occur in many places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Sundargarh.
Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is very likely to occur in a few places over the districts of Odisha.
Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 22.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 23.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is very likely to occur in many places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundargarh, and Deogarh.

Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, and Dhenkanal.
Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 24.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of north Odisha and at a few places over the districts of south Odisha.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Puri, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh.
Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.
Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 24.08.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 25.08.2023)
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is very likely to occur in many places over the districts of Odisha.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal.
