With a minimum temperature of 7.5°C during the past 24 hours, Koraput in Odisha remained the coldest place in the state, but the overnight low has been steadily rising over the past week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Sunday that Daringbadi (8.5°C) and G Udaygiri (9.0°C) were two additional locations with evening temperatures below 10°C. Angul and Bhawanipatna both had minimum temperatures of 12°C, while Phulbani, the district seat of Kandhamal, recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5°C.
During the past 24 hours, lowest temperatures of 12°C or lower were recorded in six locations across the state. The state’s minimum temperature increased by 2°C to 4°C, lessening the effects of the cold.
The minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar, the nation’s capital, was 15.8°C, while Cuttack’s nighttime temperature was 15.5°C.
As the temperature steadily dropped, thick fog covered many areas of Odisha, severely impairing vision. For the next two days, the IMD has issued a yellow advisory for intense fog in a number of the state’s districts.
Phulbani, Khurda, Koraput, Daringbadi, and Sonepur experienced dense fog, but Bhawanipatna, Titlagarh, Keonjhar, Rourkela, and Sambalpur experienced shallow to moderate fog.
The weather bureau predicts that the first week of January will bring mild rain to some areas of Odisha.
