The weather in Odisha will likely change from today, with the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional center in Bhubaneswar forecasting thunderstorms and rain to provide some relief from the current hot temperatures over the next four days.
The meteorological office has forecast kalbaisakhi in various Odisha districts today, including Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal, where people have been suffering from sweltering hot conditions. Surface wind speeds are expected to be 40 to 50 kmph in north coastal Odisha, which borders western West Bengal. Considering the scenario and the adverse sea conditions, the IMD has advised fishermen not to venture out into the sea until Wednesday.
While thunderstorm and lightning warnings have been issued for six Odisha districts today, the meteorological office predicts heatwave conditions in some areas of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Angul, Nayagarh, Nuapada, and Bolangir today.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected to lower temperatures in most parts of Odisha by 4°C to 6°C over the next four days, according to the weather office.
Furthermore, the IMD predicts thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind speeds of 40-50 kmph in Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi on Tuesday. There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall (7-11cm) at one or two places in Ganjam, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Kandhamal.
