The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center here predicted heavy rain in various parts of Odisha beginning today. The weather service has also issued a yellow warning for heavy rains in 17 districts across the state.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in one or two locations in Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam districts, while heavy rainfall is expected in one or two locations in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, and Kandhamal districts.
“Light to moderate rains are expected in most parts of the state for the next 4 to 5 days with heavy to very heavy rains expected in some districts. Information has been issued to the farmer brothers to start farming with the aim of starting the monsoon,” the IMD tweeted today.
Since June 21, certain sections of the state have been getting pre-monsoon rain. The amount of rain, temperature dip, and wind direction have all boosted the possibilities of the monsoon reaching more areas of Odisha. The southwest monsoon has already arrived in Odisha, affecting several areas in the state’s south and west.
Many sections of the state are expecting pre-monsoon showers. It has been raining nonstop in certain parts of the state for the past 36 hours. Heavy to extremely heavy rain is expected in many areas starting today. As a result, the weather service has issued a yellow alert for several regions for the next three days.
Though there is no heatwave alert for coastal or interior Odisha, the IMD has issued a heatwave warning for certain sections of western Odisha.
