The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that rainfall activity in Odisha will rise when a cyclonic circulation forms over Jharkhand, which borders the northern area of Odisha, on July 6.
According to the IMD’s Sunday mid-day report, the districts of Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur are expected to get significant rainfall (7 to 11 cm) beginning at 8:30 a.m. on August 6.
The weather bureau also predicted thunderstorms and lightning in one or two locations in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, and Rayagada.
The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Warning’ for the aforementioned districts, warning residents about the possibility of heavy rain.
Some sections of the districts of Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Jajpur had one or two spells of intense/heavy rainfall today, owing to a developing deep depression.
The state is projected to see a major rise in rainfall activity over the next three days. IMD warned that low-lying areas in cities may face flooding, and roads and sewers may get swamped.
