Heavy to very heavy rain/thundershowers are expected to hit numerous districts of Odisha on Tuesday as a new low-pressure area forms over the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional office in Bhubaneswar. It has issued a yellow signal for heavy rainfall in 15 districts throughout the state.

On Tuesday, the IMD predicted 70 mm to 110 mm of rainfall in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jajpur, stating that the rainy weather is likely to persist until September 27.

The IMD further stated that thunderstorms with lightning are highly likely to develop in isolated areas of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri districts.

People have been advised to watch the weather and stay indoors during rainstorms to avoid lightning strikes.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Balasore district has eased as the water level in the Subarnarekha River recedes. However, other portions of the district, including Kuchirgadi Panchayat, Kushuda, Gabgaon, and Manunagar, remain under water. Some sections of Rasalpul in Bhograi block remain cut off from the outside world.
