During the next four days, at least 14 districts in Odisha are expected to receive light to moderate rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms with lightning in Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Cuttack districts on Tuesday.
An orange warning has been issued for the Odisha district of Angul.
More rain is expected to fall on Odisha from March 24 to 28 as a result of a western disturbance.
Winds will gust from 50 to 60 kilometers per hour. However, the effect of the westerly winds will diminish beginning today. The majority of the districts in the south and north Odisha, including coastal areas of the state are likely to receive light to moderate rains. The day temperature is likely to rise from Wednesday and remain at 3°C to 4°C above normal.
On Monday, hailstorms and rain fell in various parts of the state, including the capital city of Bhubaneswar, Khurdha, Cuttack, Balasore, and Bolangir.
Meanwhile, rain and thundershowers, accompanied by hailstorms in some areas, ravaged standing crops in the districts of Bhadrak, Rayada, and Kalahandi. The damage was greatest in Rayagada’s Kashipur block, where vegetable crops such as corn, tomato, cauliflower, cabbage, coriander, and others were grown. The crops were ready for harvesting, but the Nor’wester dealt a severe blow to the farmers’ hopes.
Farmers in the Kalahandi district’s Kokasara block are in a similar situation to those in Kashipur, as hailstorms have caused extensive crop damage. Onion farmers are the most affected, as they fear that their crops have started rotting in the wet soil.
Farmlands in the Basudevpur block of the Bhadrak district are still submerged. The torrential rains have left farmers facing massive losses as they battle wilt disease in their crops as a result of the unseasonal rain.
