The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning in six districts of Odisha today on Sunday.
Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam are anticipated to receive light to moderate rainfall today.
“Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam,” the IMD said in a Twitter post. “Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of south interior Odisha, Gajapati, Ganjam and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha,” it added.
According to the weather service, Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas are also anticipated to have sporadic rain through Monday.
Odisha has received 773.5 mm of rain this monsoon season. This is slightly less than the average rainfall of 845.8 mm, marking a 9% shortfall. It’s worth mentioning that rainfall patterns around the state have been extremely varied during this time.
