A cyclonic disturbance over the north Bay of Bengal may cause heavy to very heavy rain in several districts of Odisha on Thursday. A cyclonic disturbance is active over the north and central Bay of Bengal, according to the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, and it will generate heavy rainfall in 17 districts of the state today.
The meteorological service predicts widespread rainfall over western and some interior regions of Odisha over the next 24 hours. As a result, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rain in 17 districts across the state.
According to the MeT office, the amount and intensity will grow in the state until July 10. Some locations in coastal Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning.
Odisha has gotten 176.5 mm of rain since the start of the monsoon in June, which is less than the usual rainfall during this period.
People have been warned to keep an eye on the weather and take care to avoid lightning and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the state has received widespread rainfall in the last 24 hours, most of which has been light to moderate. The maximum rainfall was recorded at Barkot in Devgarh district with 127.6 mm, followed by Gurundia in Sundergarh district with 104 mm and Gunpur in Rayagada with 87.4 mm.
