The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional office here predicted extensive rain across the state today on Monday. In addition, the weather service has issued an orange warning for severe to very heavy rain in eight Odisha districts.
“Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in some districts of western and interior Odisha with another 24 hours of widespread rainfall in the state under the influence of an active low-pressure area over north Odisha,” the IMD tweeted.
“The low pressure is active over north Odisha and adjoining areas on Monday, associated cyclone extending up to 7.6 km height of the atmosphere. It is likely to cross Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh to North Madhya Pradesh in the next two days.”
Today’s forecast calls for heavy to very heavy rain (7 cm to 20 cm) in several districts, including Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Boudh, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada. At the same time, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) on Monday in the districts of Angul, Cuttack, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Keonjhar.
On Tuesday, a yellow rain warning was issued for many districts around the state.
