Light to moderate rain will continue in various districts of Odisha on Friday, according to the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), due to the effect of a low-pressure system in the north Bay of Bengal. On July 9, another cyclonic disturbance is expected to emerge in the Bay of Bengal, causing severe rains in numerous regions.
The low-pressure line has now expanded over Balasore in north Odisha to the east-central Bay of Bengal, and the cyclone is active from the Ganges valley to north Odisha. As a result, the IMD has issued a heavy to very heavy rain warning for the state for the next four days.
The weather office has issued a yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rain in Nuapada, Balangir, Burgad, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh, while a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain in Devgarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Sonpur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput districts. The overall amount of rain in these districts is expected to range between 70 and 200 mm.
On Saturday, eight Odisha districts were given a heavy rain warning. On June 9, eight districts in Odisha are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain.
The capital city Bhubaneswar Bhubaneswar can expect cloudy skies in the next 24 hours.
