Today on June 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional office issued a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms in numerous districts of Odisha. The yellow alert will remain in effect in the state for three days, and rain and squalls are expected in numerous Odisha districts until June 3.
On June 1, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain or thunderstorms in Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts, as well as one or two sites in coastal Odisha districts Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, and Nabarangapur.
Lightning and thunderstorms are possible in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, and Khordha, where wind speeds range from 30 to 40 kmph.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface wind are also expected today in Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Khurda, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, and Mayurbhanj districts, according to the IMD.
However, considerable increases in the day temperature (highest temperature) are unlikely, with many sites in western Odisha recording 42°C. Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonpur, Balangir, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh districts in western Odisha will continue to face hot conditions.
During the next 24 hours, the capital city of Bhubaneswar may get a few spells of rain or thundershower.
