Heavy rain is expected to hit numerous regions of Odisha until September 11, as the well-defined Low-Pressure area over the Bay of Bengal consolidated into a depression on Sunday.
According to an IMD statement, the well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest and central Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression and was centered over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, about 310 km east of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 260 km east-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha), 290 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), and 410 km south of Digha (West Bengal).
It is expected to move approximately northwestward towards the shores of north Odisha and West Bengal over the next 24 hours, intensifying into a deep depression, according to the IMD.
It is then expected to proceed west-northwest across north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and adjoining north Chhattisgarh during the next two days, the report said.
