Most parts of Odisha are expected to receive severe rains on Thursday as a result of a new low-pressure system in the east-central Bay of Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the wet spell is predicted to last until August 31.
The low-pressure area in the east central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal will migrate west and north-west, eventually reaching the coasts of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh. As a result, heavy to extremely heavy rain is expected in several areas of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada today. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the following districts.
Similarly, significant rainfall may occur at numerous spots in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Nuapada, Nayagarh, Khorda, and Puri on Thursday.
Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Malkangiri and Koraput districts on Friday. An orange alert has been issued in these two districts. Heavy to very heavy rain could also fall in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam. The IMD cautioned that certain areas could see rainfall ranging from 70mm to 200mm. Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khorda, Puri, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur may also have severe rain. The IMD has projected heavy to very heavy rainfall for Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, and Koraput on Saturday.
