The world’s largest open-air theater festival, ‘Dhanu Jatra’, began in Bargarh on Wednesday, transforming the entire town into a huge stage for legendary performances.
The festivities began with a vibrant cultural parade from Gandhi Chowk to the Samaleswari Temple, which culminated in the ceremonial creation of demon king Kansa’s court at Hatapada. This enormous setup has brought life to Bargarh’s vast open-air stadium, clearing the way for an 11-day immersion in stories inspired by Lord Krishna’s famous deeds.
The staged wedding of Devaki and Vasudeva was the opening day’s centerpiece, followed by Kansa’s dramatic coup of King Ugrasena to grab the throne and begin his dictatorial reign.
The atmosphere in Bargarh is electric with excitement, attracting large throngs of visitors from all across Odisha and beyond to see this legendary event.
From bustling streets and markets to designated performance areas, the town is alive with activity, highlighting the rich cultural legacy and dramatic magnificence that make Dhanu Jatra a timeless draw.
