Odisha: YouTube Live streaming For School Students – Classes 1 To 8

Bhubaneswar: Schools throughout Odisha are to conduct virtual classes for students of elementary classes through YouTube Live Streaming from June 21 to July 2, as per a letter issued by the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) on Wednesday.

State Project Director of OSEPA, Bhupendra Singh Poonia, have issued detailed guidelines in this regard in the letter addressed to all District Education Officers and District Project Coordinators of Samagra Siksha.

The key features of the programme are as follows:

1.) The classes for elementary level will start from 21.06.2021 to 02.07.2021. In First phase eight districts have been selected to conduct the YouTube classes. The allotment of classes to districts, subject/chapter to be taught, books to be used and time for classes are given below:

2.) The class-wise & subject wise scheme of lesson to be taught from 21.06.2021 to 02.07.2021 has been enclosed in a separate Annexure.

3.) The classes will be conducted as per common time table and chapter to be taught as prepared by OSEPA for Class l to VIII. Teaching of students of Class I to VIII will be streamed at the same time from one Classroom set up of 1 district for one class. For example Khordha will teach for Class I and Bolangir for Class II simultaneously. In a particular period of the daily time table, one teacher will teach a lesson of a subject for all student of that class of the state.

4.) The classes will be streamed from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am. to 10.00 a.m for Class I to III and 9.00 am to 10.30 am for class IV to VIII with teaching periods of 30 minutes duration each. No class will be done on Saturday and Sunday so as to enable teachers for preparation of lesson and other related classes.

5.) DEOs are to prepare basic YouTube Live streaming studios by improvising classrooms and arranging minimum equipments for YouTube Live Streaming Classes as instructed in an earlier letter issued on 9.6.2021.

6.) The MIS unit of Samagra Siksha will look after the technical side of the programme as per the letter dated 9.6.2021. The Pedagogy Unit will look into the academic side of the programme.

7.) The guidelines for implementation of the programme are as follows:

(a) In the district to which subjects of 1 class (of I to VIII) are allotted, the DEO will form a Team of RPs for the subject (s) with a Senior Subject Expert as its head. The team will do the following works

i. Guide the teacher selected to take a live class
ii. Preview of contents before live class;
iii. Review of lessons delivered and give suggestions for enchancment and similar supportive works for smooth running of live classes.

(Maximum three teachers per subject may be allotted throughout this period (21.06.2021 to 02.07.2021)

(b) The ADEO, Academic or any other authorized Senior Education Officer will remain in-charge of YouTube Live streaming in the district. ADEO in-charge of schemes/DPC will be liable for the technical support for the programme.

(c) Well before the date of live class, the teacher allotted with a live class will share the lesson plan with contents of portion of lesson to be delivered and other audio visual aids to be used such as videos/animations/graphics/PPT/images/slides with the selected previewers of the subject RP group and on the basis of suggestions will make corrections of errors if any or make modifications as required.

(d) Teacher entrusted to take the live class must be careful enough not to commit any error in explanation, that means, information shared with the students during the class.

(e) Each YouTube Live class will be reviewed by some members of the Subject Team at the district level and some RPs to be identified by DSE, their views will be recorded and on the basis of the feedback from the reviewers from District and State, necessary follow up action will be taken by DEOs such as advising the teacher to carry out the suggestions for improvement of lesson delivery or replacing the teacher wherever required. One TeChnical support staff/Programmer may be assigned to run the equipment for YouTube Live streaming.

(f) The suggested format for a class is as follows:

(i) Self introduction and introduction to be lesson by the teachers
(ii) Clarification of the doubts/reply to content related questions received in the YouTube Live chart messages in the previous virtual class
(iii) Delivery of the lesson: Teaching/Explanation of the content with help of TLM, videos/animated videos/graphics/PPT and many others. This will include revision of line lessons/concepts of previous class.
(iv) Dissemination of important information related to Telecast of Video lessons, Radio Pathashala, availability of contents in Diksha App., Madhu App.

(g) Concerned subject teachers of each school will watch the live class and they will clear doubts of the students on the lesson delivered through chat or voice call.

(h) Each school will record every day data of students watching the YouTube Live classes with the assistance of the subject teacher.

(i) Practice & Assessment: The teachers at school will develop Subject wise/class wise worksheets/assessment sheets on each chapter and it will be sent to children’s house through WhatsApp. Teachers will evaluate and record their scores using individual files for each child which will be monitored by the BEO/DEOs/State Level Officials.

(j) Schools may arrange additional online classes beyond the time table fixed by the State for doubt clearing and delivering of additional contents.

All DEOs have been requested to make necessary arrangement for the YouTube Live Class Programme and ensure smooth and successful implementation of the same.
