In a big twist to the sensational Nayagarh minor girl abduction and murder case, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court here at this time pronounced the prime accused who has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be a juvenile.
The court pronounced the order primarily based on the birth certificate and matriculation certificate submitted by the prime accused’s defence counsel Prafulla Satpathy before the court.
“The court based on the birth certificate and matriculation certificate of the accused handed an order today that the accused is a juvenile. The court sent the records of the case to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) Nayagarh,” informed Satpathy after the pronouncement by the court.
It is pertinent to say here that Satpathy had on Monday filed a petition before the court that his client is a juvenile and had furnished the latter’s birth and matriculation certificates in original in support of his claim.
“The school certificates submitted by them exhibits that the accused is of 17 years of age. Basing on that the court shifted the case to JJB. The matter will likely be adjudicated by the JJB,” mentioned public prosecutor Bansidhar Routray.
It may be mentioned here that Satpathy had furnished photostat copies of the accused’s birth and matriculation certificates on the day he was first produced before the POCSO court however the court had rejected these and had sought authentic certificates.
