After Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Sundargarh, another stadium in Odisha has received International Hockey Federation (FIH) certification.
According to a FIH source, the Tileikani hockey stadium field in the district has been tested and found to meet the requirements of a FIH Category 3 hockey field. The certificate is valid until December 27, 2025 and was issued on January 16, 2023.
Taking to its Twitter handle, Hockey India wrote, “Tileikani Hockey Stadium in Tileikani, Odisha, has been granted the FIH Category 3 Hockey field certificate. Congratulations! #IndiaKaGame #HockeyIndia @CMO_Odisha @sports_odisha @IndiaSports @Media_SAI.”
The accordance was hailed by Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). “Congratulations @sports_odisha as Tileikani Hockey Stadium in #Sundargarh district received FIH Category 3 Hockey field certificate. The state-of-the-art stadium will further strengthen hockey infrastructure at grassroot level and nurture talent. #HockeyWorldCup2023,” the CMO tweeted.
It is pertinent to mention, the FIH president Tayyab Ikram recently confirmed that Birsa Munda Stadium is the largest stadium for hockey in the world in terms of seating capacity.
“No other hockey stadium in the world except Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela has 21,800 seating capacity,” Ikram had earlier said at a presser.
Seating capacity at Birsa Munda hockey stadium was raised from 20,000 to 21,800, he had added.
“You don’t have this ‘seating’ capacity anywhere else in the world. I have not seen such infrastructure and facilities for a tournament anywhere. Let’s all appreciate this,” the FIH president had stated.
