Badr Albusaidi, the Foreign Minister of Oman, arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (IAFMM).
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed Oman’s Foreign Minister, saying, “His visit will further strengthen the multifaceted strategic partnership between India and Oman.”
Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, arrived in New Delhi earlier today to attend IAFMM.
The MEA cordially welcomed the UAE leader, stating that “His visit will further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE.”
Libyan Foreign Minister Eltaher S M Elbaour, Somalia’s Abdisalam Ali, and Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the second IAFMM.
The MEA extended a warm welcome to the delegation, stating that their visit will assist improve India’s bilateral partnership with the respective countries.
S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister (EAM), met with League of Arab States Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit in New Delhi on Friday to discuss ways to improve bilateral collaboration in a variety of sectors.
Following their conversation, EAM Jaishankar wrote on X, “A warm meeting with Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, this morning.” We had a wide-ranging discussion on expanding and deepening our collaboration across multiple disciplines. Also discussed recent changes in the region.”
EAM Jaishankar also met with the foreign ministers of the Comoros, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Palestine.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding collaboration across all industries.
India will host the second IAFMM on Saturday. The meeting, hosted by India and the United Arab Emirates, will be attended by Foreign Ministers from various Arab League Member States, as well as the Arab League Secretary General.
The second India-Arab Foreign Ministers Meeting is aimed to strengthen and deepen the partnership.
The Foreign Ministers’ conference comes ten years after the first one, which was held in Bahrain in 2016. During the inaugural Foreign Ministers Meeting, the leaders highlighted five priority areas of cooperation: economics, energy, education, media, and culture, and recommended a series of actions across these areas.
“India Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is the highest institutional mechanism driving this partnership, which was formalised in March 2002 when India and the League of Arab States (LAS) signed an MoU institutionalising the process of dialogue,” the MEA stated.
