Consumers will have to pay more for milk sold by the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED), which has raised the price of a 500 ml packet of milk by Rs 2 beginning April 1, 2023.
While the price of a 500 ml packet of OMFED Toned Milk will rise from Rs 21 to Rs 23, Premium Milk will cost Rs 26 instead of Rs 24, Gold Milk will rise from Rs 24 to Rs 26, and Chai Special Milk will rise from Rs 23 to Rs 25.
According to an OMFED statement issued on Thursday, the increase in milk prices is due to increases in the prices of various milk-related substances and supplies. These include electricity tariff, packaging, transportation and fodder.
“It is important to note that 90 per cent of the cost of OMFED milk sales goes towards milk procurement. As a responsible organisation, OMFED has consistently worked towards providing fair prices to milk producers, thereby ensuring the sustainability of milk production and availability of quality milk to consumers at affordable prices,” the OMFED said in its press release.
It added, “Consumer costs have also increased with an increase in ancillary costs as well as operational costs of packaging, marketing, etc. Despite higher prices for milk purchases, consumer prices were kept intact by OMFED over the past year.”
