The Palestinian death toll as a result of Israel’s attack on Gaza has increased to 15,899, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.
The ministry’s spokesman, Ashraf al-Qedra, claimed on Monday during a press conference in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, that the number of injured individuals had risen to more than 42,000, with children and women accounting for 70% of the victims.
According to Xinhua, Al-Qedra accused Israel of expanding its targeting of hospitals and health facilities, claiming that it destroyed 56 health institutions, imprisoned 35 medical staff, and rendered the Gaza Strip’s health system fully inoperable.
Al-Qedra urged the United Nations and the World Health Organization to safeguard hospitals, health and humanitarian teams, and to guarantee safe passage for medical supplies, fuel, and wounded people.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Hamas had purposefully planted themselves among civilians in order for Gazans to endure the repercussions of “Hamas atrocities.”
“Our war is not against the people of Gaza, but against Hamas.” “We are taking extensive measures to protect civilians used as shields by Hamas,” the IDF said in an X post on its official account Monday evening.
Israel has been fighting a large-scale battle against Hamas since October 7, after the latter began an unprecedented onslaught on Israeli communities.
