A Delhi court on Thursday remanded the four suspects arrested for breaking security at the new Parliament building in the custody of the municipal police for seven days.
The accused, Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Shinde, and Neelam Devi, were brought before Special Judge for NIA cases Hardeep Kaur by the city police, who requested a 15-day detention. They were charged under the anti-terror law UAPA as well as several sections of the Indian Penal Code.
However, the court remanded them in police prison for 7 days. On the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror assault, two people, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, stormed into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors’ gallery, sprayed yellow-colored smoke from canisters, and screamed slogans before being overpowered by some MPs and watch and ward staff.
Around the same time, two additional suspects, Amol Shinde and Neelam Devi, blasted coloured gas from canisters while yelling “tanashahi nahi chalegi” outside Parliament.
Sagar, Manoranjan, Amol, and Neelam were arrested right away, while their accomplice Vishal, in whose residence the accused stayed before going to Parliament, was arrested later in Gurugram. A crucial conspirator, Lalit Jha, is on the run.
