With director Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan returned to the big screen after more than four years and helped pull Bollywood out of the weeds. Since its initial release, the film has broken records, with a grand total of Rs 57 crore. Pathaan is expected to earn around Rs 17-17.50 crore on its eighth day of release, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 348.50 crore, according to Box Office India. Although there was a 20% drop from Tuesday, some pockets managed to hold their ground. It has surpassed Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai’s nett box office collection of Rs 339.16 crore with this.
According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the spy thriller directed by Siddharth Anand and starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham has already grossed over Rs 675 crore globally.
Pathaan broke Baahubali 2 and KGF 2’s (Hindi) domestic record by crossing the Rs 300 crore mark in seven days. Aamir Khan’s Dangal, on the other hand, reached the milestone in 13 days, while Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai and Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju did so in 16 days. It not only surpassed Rs 300 crore, but it also became the highest opening-week earner in Hindi film history. The first week’s collection was Rs 239 crore. Pathaan is currently on track to surpass Dangal’s total collection in India, which was Rs 387 crore.
Pathaan has performed extremely well in the UK as well, and has collected £1.9 million pounds. Pathaan also crossed the $1 million mark in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the $10 million mark in North America.
Pathaan’s box office success is also a relief for Shah Rukh Khan. Zero, Fan, Raees, and Jab Harry Met Sejal were all commercial flops for him. It’s also a confidence booster for Bollywood, which had only a few hits last year, with only a few breaking the Rs 200 crore mark. Critics have praised Shah Rukh Khan’s charisma as well as John Abraham’s performance as the villain in Pathaan. The film launched YRF’s spy universe, which will continue in Tiger 3.
