A plane carrying 61 passengers crashed in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, killing everyone on board, according to a statement from Brazilian regional airline Voepass.
The plane crashed in Vinhedo, Sao Paulo state, and apparently fell into a residential neighborhood. Officials said that one home in the local condominium complex had been destroyed. However, none of the inhabitants were injured.
The little twin-engine plane took off from Cascavel in the southern Brazilian state of Parana and flew to Sao Paulo’s international airport, according to the BBC.
Previously, it was believed that 62 passengers died on board the crashed jet, however the airline later amended the death toll to 61.
“The company regrets to inform that all 61 people on board Flight 2283 died at the scene,” Voepass said in a statement.
According to the airline, there were 57 passengers on board and four crew members.
“At this time, Voepass Linhas Aereas prioritises providing unrestricted assistance to the families of the victims and effectively collaborating with the authorities to investigate the causes of the accident,” it added.
ATR, the manufacturer of the crashed aircraft, has stated that its professionals are fully engaged in the inquiry into the cause of the disaster.
