Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express, connecting Berhampur with Udhna in Gujarat’s Surat district from Jharsuguda.
The train’s goal is to provide economical and pleasant travel across states, encourage tourism, create jobs, and build connections between vital economic zones.
During his visit, the Prime Minister set the groundwork for the transformation of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur into world-class super-specialty facilities. The enhanced facilities will include more beds, trauma care units, dentistry colleges, maternal and child care services, and expanded academic infrastructure to improve healthcare in Odisha.
PM Modi also inaugurated major railway projects to improve regional connectivity. These include the laying of the foundation stone for a 5 km rail flyover at Sambalpur-Sarla, which will cost Rs 273 crore, as well as the dedication of the 34-km Koraput-Baiguda rail line and the 82-km Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur segment, which will cost Rs 1,400 crore in total.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, and Pravati Parida were among those who attended the occasion.
