Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated an Ayurveda research and training institute in Gujarat today that can supply a range of programs and forge interdisciplinary collaborations to provide a recent thrust to the traditional drugs system.
PM Modi inaugurated the newly formed Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) by video conferencing as we speak in view of the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. The newly formed institute has been deemed an ‘institute of national importance’.
ITRA, which was formed by merging a cluster of 4 Ayurveda institutes on the university campus, is located within the Gujarat Ayurveda University campus in Jamnagar city and was created by an Act of Parliament recently.
These 4 institutes have been – the Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Shree Gulab Kunverba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Maharshi Patanjali Institute for Yoga Naturopathy Education and Research.
First AYUSH institute to have IMI status
In accordance with a release by PIB, ITRA is the primary institute to benefit from the INI status in the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) sector. In September, Parliament had passed a bill for the creation of ITRA and conferred it the standing of an “institution of national importance”.
“ITRA would be the first establishment with INI status within the AYUSH sector, and this can allow the establishment to be impartial and revolutionary within the matter of deciding course content material and pedagogy,” stated the discharge.
“The decision comes at a time when world curiosity in health options based mostly on traditional knowledge is at an unprecedentedly high level and ITRA is poised to take Ayurveda education to new vistas,” it added, as per PTI reports.
ITRA exclusively dedicated to Ayurveda research
ITRA may have the autonomy to improve requirements of Ayurveda training, in keeping with a release by the Ministry of AYUSH. It acknowledged, “It will offer courses as per national and international demand and forge interdisciplinary collaborations to provide a recent thrust to Ayurveda.”
The release further added, “This University is an autonomous organisation fully financed by the Gujarat government. The university takes care of the management of the institutes and colleges located within the campus together with conducting examinations of degrees/diplomas awarded by the university.”
The Gujarat Ayurveda University was established in 1967 by an Act of the state Assembly. It’s the first statutory University of its kind both on the national and international level – exclusively dedicated to Ayurvedic studies and research, stated a release by the state government.
