Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s song Abundance in Millets, sung by Falu and Gaurav Shah, has been nominated for a Grammy in the Best Global Music Performance category for 2024. The song Abundance in Millets was created to raise awareness about the value of millets during the International Year of Millets in 2023.
While the Shahs sang the song, it also included a piece of PM Modi’s statement commemorating International Millet Year. In the excerpt from the PM’s words, he is heard discussing incorporating millets into our daily lives. He claims it will benefit the country’s farmers. The song was made available for streaming on June 16th.
The song, along with the video, depicts millet farming in India and explains how it might help to alleviate hunger. The song encourages people from all walks of life to consume millets because they are healthy and can help a person’s overall health.
NOTE: The year 2023 has been designated as the International Year of Millets, after a proposal for it was brought forward by India and endorsed by the members of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) governing bodies as well as the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly.
