Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in New Delhi late on Monday evening for an official three-day visit at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation, as both countries continue to explore initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations, which were elevated to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership in 2015. PM Ibrahim was warmly received by Union Minister of State, V Somanna at the airport.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim with a formal welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.
Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, shared photos of the two leaders posing together today as part of the Malaysian Prime Minister’s State visit to India.
“A special beginning to an important visit! PM @narendramodi warmly received PM @anwaribrahim of Malaysia in a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” the MEA said in a post on X. “Malaysia is a key pillar of India’s Act East Policy and a valued partner in the region,” the post added.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by laying a wreath at Delhi’s Rajghat following his meeting with Prime Minister Modi. Ibrahim also signed the visitor register at Rajghat.
On August 20, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will meet with India’s President Droupadi Murmu.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also meet with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during his visit.
India and Malaysia have extensive historical and sociocultural ties. During Prime Minister Modi’s visit in 2015, our bilateral relationship was raised to Enhanced Strategic Partnership status.
As both countries reach the second decade of their Enhanced Strategic Partnership next year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit would pave the path for further strengthening of India-Malaysia bilateral ties by charting out a multi-sectoral cooperation agenda for the future, the MEA stated.
