Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his historic visit to Poland on Thursday, the first by a top Indian leader in 45 years, following ex-PM Morarji Desai’s visit in 1979, by meeting with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Sebastian Duda, as well as visiting prominent sites here that reflect the two countries’ historic bond.
PM Modi highlighted his visit to Poland as a memorable one, referring to the central European country as India’s “valued friend”.
“My Poland visit has been special. It is after decades that an Indian PM set foot on Polish soil. This visit gave an opportunity to deepen cooperation with a valued friend. We look forward to closer business and cultural connect with Poland. Our friendship can certainly contribute to a better planet. I thank the Polish people and Government for their warmth,” PM Modi wrote on X.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that PM Modi’s visit to Poland set a new milestone in the bilateral ties.
PM Narendra Modi Ukraine visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ukraine on Friday, following a 10-hour journey from Poland via Rail Force One.
This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, invited the visitors.
When PM Modi arrived at the station, he was greeted and taken to the Hyatt Hotel for early engagements.
The Indian diaspora welcomed PM Modi to the hotel.
PM Modi’s visit will include a trip at the Ukraine National Museum’s multimedia Martyrologist exhibit. The Prime Minister will pay tribute to the remembrance of Ukrainian youngsters who lost their lives as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The Ukraine Museum exhibition displays papers and artefacts from the most significant military wars of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, revealing Ukrainians’ courageous struggle for freedom, independence, and cultural identity.
Later in the day, PM Modi will pay homage to the Gandhi statue, which represents Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy and his ideas of peace and nonviolence. The bronze monument of Mahatma Gandhi in AV Fomin Botanical Garden was unveiled in 2020 to commemorate Gandhi’s 151st birth anniversary.
PM Modi will then visit the Mariinskyi Palace, where he will be greeted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This will be followed by a private discussion between the two leaders to discuss crucial topics. High-level delegation meetings will follow, where important discussions on bilateral cooperation are expected. Document exchanges will take place to formalise agreements and collaborations between the two nations.
One of the visit’s highlights will be the demonstration of the BHISHM Cube, a novel mobile hospital intended for disaster management. Prime Minister Narendra Modi would then meet with Ukrainian youngsters studying Hindi, highlighting India-Ukraine cultural and educational links.
