As the two-day G20 leaders’ summit in Bali came to a close on Wednesday, Indonesian President Joko Widodo handed over the presidency to Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid applause.
Widodo said in his closing remarks that the Group of 20 major economies adopted a joint declaration and formed other partnerships. Later, he handed over the presidency to Prime Minister Modi. India will formally take over the presidency on December 1. Widodo stated that the Group of 20 major economies adopted a joint declaration and formed other partnerships, Widodo said in his closing comments. Later, he handed over the gavel of presidency to PM Modi. India will officially assume the presidency from December 1.
PM Modi stated that India’s assumption of the G20 presidency is a source of pride for all citizens. “We can make the G20 summit a catalyst for global welfare if we work together,” he said.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra stated that India contributed “constructively” to the drafting of the G20 “outcome document.”
Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union comprise the G20 (EU). They account for more than 80% of global GDP, 75% of international trade, and two-thirds of the world’s population.
Xi Jinping of China, Joe Biden of the United States, Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom, and French President Emmanuel Macron among others attended the three-day summit.
