PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan: The Ministry of Education has announced PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan, a central sector plan for deserving kids from low-income families. The award is for college and university students and is based on Class 12 scores.
Every year, up to 82,000 new scholarships are awarded to students studying graduate and postgraduate degrees in colleges and universities, as well as professional courses like as medicine and engineering.
Eligibility
“Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream from the respective Board of Examination in Class 12 of 10+2 pattern or equivalent,” read the website, adding that such students must pursue a regular course rather than from correspondence or distance mode or pursuing diploma courses.
The college or university must be recognized by the relevant regulatory authorities. The candidate must not have received any benefits from any other scholarship schemes, including state-run scholarships, fee waivers, or reimbursement programs.
Students with gross parental or family income of up to Rs 4.5 lakh per year are eligible for the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan scholarship. According to the website, only fresh candidates would be needed to provide an income certificate.
Rate of scholarship
According to the financial year 2022-23, the rate of scholarship was Rs 12,000 per annum at the graduation level for the first three years of college and university courses and Rs 20,000 per annum at the post-graduation level.
Those students pursuing professional courses, in case, where the duration of the course is five years or they are pursuing any integrated course will get Rs 20,000 per annum in the 4th and 5th year, however, students pursuing technical courses such as BTech, BE will get PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan scholarship up to graduation level only Rs 12,000 per annum for three years and Rs 20,000 in the 4th year.
The rate of scholarship is according to the financial year 2022 and 2024. The current plan of scholarship might differ.
Students are required to have bank accounts opened with their name to avail the benefits under the scheme. The PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan scholarship will be disbursed directly into the savings bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
How to apply
The applications are received online only through, scholarships.gov.in. Candidates are first verified through DigiLocker and their information is added automatically through the portal.
The guidelines for application, verification, selection and disbursement of scholarships will be as per the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). A selection list would be generated on NSP for the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan.
Online applications will be verified at two levels: first by the Institute where the student is studying, and then by the relevant state higher education department or any other agency or official designated by the state as a state nodal agency (both for new and renewal applicants).
