Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh on May 28 to discuss the long-awaited Polavaram Project.
According to sources, this will be the first time the Prime Minister has directly engaged with the Chief Ministers of all four states on this matter. The project, a multifunctional irrigation and hydroelectric initiative in Andhra Pradesh, has been fraught with controversy for years, with Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana objecting.
According to sources, the respective states’ Chief Secretaries have already been briefed on the planned meeting via video conference. The meeting will be attended by the states’ chief ministers, irrigation ministers, and senior bureaucrats, as well as top representatives from the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, the Central Water Commission, and the Polavajayam Project Authority.
Before the conference, Odisha had a preliminary session led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to finalize its stance.
It is understood that multiple petitions filed by Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana concerning the Polavaram Project are currently waiting in the Supreme Court.
