Popular Odia playback singer Humane Sagar passed away on Monday evening while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar. He was 36.

According to Dr. Srikant Behera, an Intensivist and ECMO Specialist at AIIMS, Humane Sagar’s multi-organ failure condition did not respond to vigorous and advanced treatment from a team of specialist specialists. The singer passed away around 9 p.m.

Humane Sagar was admitted to AIIMS emergency on October 14 at 1.10 p.m. in a severe condition. He was later admitted to the Medical ICU for additional examination. Doctors established that he had multi-organ dysfunction syndrome, acute on chronic liver failure, bilateral pneumonia, and dilated cardiomyopathy with significant left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

Known for his melodious voice and chart-topping songs, Humane Sagar rose to fame with the title track of the film ‘Ishq Tu Hi Tu.’ Over his career, he sang hundreds of Odia movie and bhajan songs and contributed to several music albums including ‘Tuma Otha Tale’, ‘Niswasa’, ‘Bekhudee’, and ‘Chehera’ (2017).

He lent his voice to over 100 songs, including several chart-topping hits in films, albums, and devotional music.

Humane Sagar’s last rites will be performed at Titlagarh, his birthplace.

After Humane Sagar died at AIIMS, his mortal remains were transported from the hospital to his Cuttack home, where dignitaries and fans paid their final tributes. From there, his remains is being transported to his birthplace of Titlagarh, where family and friends will say their final farewells before burial.

Meanwhile, preparations are on in his hometown, where people have gathered in large numbers to catch one last look of the son of the land.

Dignitaries such as Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik have all expressed their condolences, remembering him for his contributions to Odia music.

The sudden death of the singer has left the Odia music and film industry in despair. Fans across the state took to social media to express their grief and condolences, commemorating a musician who had made an everlasting impression on Odia music.
