With only a few weeks until the start of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup, the Organising Committee of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup, co-chaired by Chief Secretary of Odisha, Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, and President Hockey India Dilip Tirkey, and the Chief Minister Office, reviewed the departments’ and districts’ preparations for the event’s success. During the discussions, various department senior officials and Hockey India officials were present.
Stadium readiness, connectivity, hospitality, community outreach, safety and security, traffic and crowd management, World Cup celebrations and city festivals, hospitality, and medical arrangements were among the topics discussed. The Department of Sports and Youth Services has been informed that the Department of Sports and Youth Services has allocated a budget of Rs 75 Crore during the FY 2022-23 for the Hockey World Cup.
The FIH has already certified the four turfs: two recently re-laid turfs at Kalinga Hockey Stadium and two new turfs (main and practice) laid at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium. Both stadiums’ lighting systems have also been certified and are operational.
The teams’ facilities in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela were evaluated. The Teams will be transported between Bhubaneswar and Rourkela on dedicated flights. Commercial flights to Rourkela are expected to begin soon after the necessary permissions are obtained.
Mo Bus services in Rourkela will begin in January, and services in Bhubaneswar are being expanded. It was decided that spectators with match day tickets would be allowed free Mo Bus travel.
The security arrangements, as well as traffic and parking management, were thoroughly discussed to ensure that the spectators had a safe, secure, and smooth experience.
The Hockey World Cup Celebrations event in Cuttack on January 11th was also thoroughly reviewed.
The Secretary to Chief Minister V K Pandian conveyed the Chief Minister’s direction that the celebrations be organized in a grand manner across all districts, involving communities, schools, colleges, and so on.
There will be prizes for the best-performing districts, it was announced. The Collectors were consulted about the arrangements for the City and district-level festivals. The Trophy Tour will visit every district in the state.
Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, the host cities, are being upgraded and beautified in preparation for the Hockey World Cup. It was specified that all work be completed as soon as possible.
The Organising Committee was pleased with the progress of the works. All of the officials present were asked to give their all in order to make the Hockey World Cup a huge success.
