President Droupadi Murmu has arrived in Suriname for the first time on her first state visit to the South American country.
“In a special gesture, President @CSantokhi of Suriname received the President at the airport with full state honours,” Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a tweet late Sunday.
The president will meet with Suriname leaders and a cross-section of the Indian Diaspora in the capital city of Paramaribo during the first part of her tour (June 4–6).
According to official sources, the visit will deepen India’s deep connections with Suriname.
Her visit has been arranged by her Surinamese colleague, Chandrikapersad Santokhi.
During her visit, she will hold special meetings with President Santokhi and take part in a number of activities.
On the invitation of President Aleksandar Vucic, President Murmu will depart for Serbia on June 7.
