Today is the Suna Besha of Lord Jagannath and his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.
The three deities will be adorned with gold ornaments on their three majestic wooden chariots – Nandighosa, Taladhwaja, and Debadalana – which will be placed at Srimandir’s Singhdwar during the Suna Besha.
Rajadhiraja Besha, Raja Besha, and Rajarajeshwara Besha are other names for Suna Besha. The deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are adorned with gold jewelry during this festival.
It is observed on Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi Tithi, the day after the Deities return from Gundicha Temple. Suna Besha is one of the 32 Beshas or forms of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra that devotees worship.
The holy trinity will be adorned with gold ornaments during this special ritual. Lord Jagannath will also be adorned with a gold chakra (disc) on his right hand and a silver conch on his left. However, Balabhadra will be adorned with a gold plough on his left hand and a golden mace on his right. Goddess Subhadra’s brow is adorned with an emerald (panna).
Suna Besha is visible five times a year. While one is seen during the Rath Yatra on Bahuda Ekadashi on the chariots placed at the lion’s gate, also known as Singhadwara, the other four Suna Beshas are seen inside the temple on the Ratna Singhasana.
Devotees will be able to see Suna Besha from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., according to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
The Odisha government and the Puri Police Department have made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the darshan goes off without a hitch.
