With the Hera Panchami and Dakhina Moda ceremonies completed, Lord Jagannath and His brother deities Lord Balbhadra and Devi Subhadra will make their trip from the Gundicha Temple to the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri on Sunday.
The ‘Dakhina Moda’ rite, which involves turning the three chariots parked on Saradhabali in front of Gundicha Temple towards Jagannath Temple in the south, began today as part of the preparations. Following that, the chariots will be stationed near Nakachana Dwara, the shrine’s eastern gate.
Darpadalan, Goddess Subhadra’s chariot, was the first to be directed south. Following it were Lord Balabhadra’s Taladhwaja and Jagannath’s Nandighosha.
The ‘Dakhina Moda’ ceremony began after the servitors who brought ajnamallyas to serve the Biswakarmas offered Sakala Dhupa to the Holy Trinity.
Mangala Alati of the Lords was delayed this morning since Goddess Mahalaxmi returned to Shree Jagannath Temple about 5.40 a.m. after getting the ajnamallyas (consent garland).
Servants bearing the representative Goddess Mahalakshmi (known as Subarna Mahalaxmi) in a bedecked palanquin arrived at the Gundicha Temple about 3.20 a.m. on Sunday, according to custom. Lord Jagannath’s consort, Goddess Mahalaxmi, is irritated because He did not accompany Her on the annual pilgrimage.
Goddess Mahalaxmi was then led to the Jaya Bijaya gate, where she hurled ‘Moha Churna’ (herb powder provided to Her by Goddess Bimala) at Her husband. Following this, the Pati Mahapatra offered the ajnamallyas of Lord Jagannath to the Goddess assuring Her that He would return to Srimandir after three days.
