Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot flagged off the popular ‘Palace on Wheels’ at Gandhinagar Railway Station on saturday, more than two years after the luxury tourist train had been suspended in the aftermath of Covid.
According to the chief minister, the royal train service has been enthralling tourists for 40 years and is an example for the rest of the world. “Its resumption indicates that tourism sector in the state is going to emerge stronger,” he added.
Gehlot inspected the train’s facilities prior to its departure. He wished the passengers a safe journey and stated that re-launching the service was a source of pride for the government.
Modern furnishings and additional amenities have been included in the train under the joint aegis of the Railways and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, he said.
To promote tourism, Gehlot stated that his government has granted the sector “industry” status and that a sum of 1,000 crore has been set aside in the 2022-23 budget.
The first royal train set out in 1982. According to an official statement, the second train was built in 1991 and the third in 1995 as a result of changing rail gauges from time to time.
Apart from Delhi and Agra, the seven-day journey covers Rajasthan’s Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer and Bharatpur.
