On Thursday, Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Sri Lanka’s eighth President at the Parliament premises.
According to the Daily Mirror, he was sworn in before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
Wickremesinghe, 73, received 134 votes from parliamentarians in the election held on Wednesday.
Out of 225 parliamentarians, 223 cast ballots, four of which were invalid, and two MPs did not vote.
Soon after being elected President, Wickremesinghe invited all political parties to join him in overcoming the economic crisis and ushering in a new political era.
