Today is the famous ‘Niladri Bije’ ritual of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra in Puri, where the holy deities will enter Srimandir.
The ritual of Lord Jagannath’s return from the chariots to the Srimandir in ‘Goti Pahandi’ is known as Niladri Bije. It is the holy deities’ procession from the chariots to Ratna Singhasana (sanctum).
The Deities move one after the other in the ‘Goti Pahandi’ procession, which means that the next Deity leaves the chariot only after the previous Deity has reached Ratna Singhasana. Before entering the main temple, a traditional act between Lord Jagannath and Devi Lakshmi’s servitors takes place at the temple’s main gate, known as the Jaya Vijaya Door.
It is widely believed that Devi Lakshmi, Lord Jagannath’s wife, becomes enraged because she was left in the Srimandir and was not a part of the Rath Yatra to the Gundicha temple. She only allows Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Sudarshana into the temple and keeps Lord Jagannath out.
As a result, in order to persuade Devi Lakshmi, Lord Jagannath offers rasagolla (a sweet dish made of curd cheese) and begs her forgiveness.
Following that, Lord Jagannath is made to sit beside Devi Lakshmi, where a reunion ritual is performed before Lord Jagannath ascends Ratna Singhasana.
The world-renowned Rath Yatra festival of the holy trinity concludes today with the Niladri Bije ritual.
