In a concerning escalation, Russia and Ukraine engaged in a series of drone clashes. Early Wednesday, officials reported that both sides initiated drone attacks. Kyiv reportedly targeted Moscow, while the Kremlin’s forces continued their signature tactic of bombarding Ukrainian grain storage depots, a method that has become emblematic of the ongoing 18-month conflict.
During the night, a three-hour Russian drone assault struck Ukraine’s Odesa region, resulting in a fire at grain facilities. Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa Regional Military Administration, communicated this incident through the Telegram messaging app. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted and downed nine Shahed drones, according to Kiper.
Regrettably, the attack had an impact on production and transshipment complexes, Kiper noted, although no casualties were reported. This event follows a similar pattern, as Russia previously targeted Odesa, causing significant damage to the port city’s grain facilities in the prior month. This action coincided with President Vladimir Putin’s decision to withdraw Russia’s involvement in the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
