Indian students who returned to Ukraine in the middle of their studies can now finish their studies in Russia, according to Russian Consul General Oleg Avdeev.
When the Russia-Ukraine war broke out earlier this year, thousands of students studying medicine in Ukraine were forced to postpone their studies and return to India. While some have returned to Ukraine, others remain at a crossroads.
Russia has decided to open doors for such students, the Russian Consul General Oleg Avdeev has said. “Indian students who left Ukraine can continue their education in Russia as the medical syllabus is almost the same (as Ukraine). They know the language of the people, as, in Ukraine, most of them speak Russian. They’re most welcome in Russia,” news agency ANI quoted Avdeev.
He also stated that the number of international students applying to higher education programs in the country has been increasing.
Meanwhile, students who returned from Ukraine during the war have had to change their courses or streams in order to continue their education. Some of them had taken out large loans from banks and other financial institutions to pursue their medical programs in Ukraine, but the war disrupted their lives to the point where their debt now exceeds what they had studied. Many students are also unable to return to Ukraine or any other country due to financial constraints.
