Kiev/Moscow: Russian and Ukrainian officials have announced that talks to end the ongoing conflict have been halted due to a stalemate.
“The talks are not taking place. “Ukraine has actually withdrawn from the negotiation process,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko told reporters, according to Xinhua.
He added that Russia has received no response from Ukraine to its draught treaty.
“Today the negotiation process was suspended. It was suspended because there are no significant changes or upheavals after the Istanbul communique,” Mykhailo Podolyak, a member of the Ukrainian delegation, was quoted as saying.
Nonetheless, he expressed optimism that the peace talks would resume, emphasising that “every war ends at the negotiating table.”
On March 29, Ukrainian and Russian negotiators met in Istanbul, Turkey, for the latest round of face-to-face peace talks.
