Sawan Somvar 2023 Puja Vidhi: The month of Sawan is regarded highly fortunate in Hinduism. This auspicious month is dedicated to Lord Shiva worship. During the holy month of Sawan, devotees visit the temple on each Monday, or Somvar, and offer milk, flowers, holy water, and bael leaves to Shiva. Those who fast on Sawan Somvar are said to be blessed by Lord Shiva with happiness, health, money, and the fulfillment of their wishes.
The month of Sawan will begin on July 4, 2023, a Tuesday. Sawan Somvar is the Monday that falls in the month of Sawan. Normally, the month of Sawan has five Mondays, but in 2023, Sawan month, just four Mondays will be observed, It will end on August 31, 2023, Thursday.
Sawan Shivratri, which falls in the holy month of Sawan, will be observed on July 15. On this day, devotees perform the Maha Rudra-Abhishek puja to usher in peace, marital bliss, prosperity, and good health.
Sawan Shivratri is particularly famous in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Bihar, where the Purnimant Lunar Calendar is practiced. In the south, where the Amavasyant Lunar Calendar is followed, Sawan Shivratri coincides to Ashadha Shivratri in regions like Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Sawan Somwar Puja Vidhi and Samagri:
Worshippers fast and consume only fruits and water. Devotees present Lord Shiva with Panchamrut, a concoction of milk, yoghurt, ghee, gangajal, and honey, as well as bilva leaves. Every Monday, devotees wear rudraksha malas and recite Shravan Somwar Vrata Katha.
The worshippers also wear rudraksha mala and recite Shravan Somwar Vrata Katha every Monday. Devotees are advised to wake up during the Brahma muhurat, clean the house to get rid of impurities, and sprinkle Gangajal around the house on the day of the fast.
The Sawan Somwar Samagri includes water, curd, milk, sugar, ghee, honey, panchamrit, vastra, janeyu, chandan, raw rice, flower, Bel patra/leaves, bhang, dhatoora, kamal gatta, prasad, paan supari, laung, elaichi, mewa and dakhsina. Additionally, turmeric, ketki flower, and tulsi leaves are prohibited while worshipping Lord Shiva.
Sawan Somwar Mantra:
‘Om Namah Shivay’ and ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’ are chanted by devotees. On this auspicious occasion, people also do Shiv aarti.
