Stock Market Highlights on Friday, March 20, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex fell from their day’s highs as energy supply concerns reappeared in the last hour, following news that Iran and Israel exchanged further attacks.
The Nifty50 closed 0.49 percent, or 112.35 points, higher at 23,114.50, while the Sensex settled 325.72 points, or 0.44 percent higher, at 74,532.96.
Broader markets also saw a considerable reduction in intraday gains. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 0.67 and 0.09 percent higher, respectively.
Sector-wise, the Nifty Realty declined 1 per cent and led losses among peers. Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Media both underperformed.
The Nifty Pharma and Nifty PSU Bank were the leading sectors gainers.
Brent crude prices climbed in the latter portion of the trading session following news of a new round of strikes between Iran and Israel. Furthermore, Bloomberg noted that the oil market’s seaborne buffer is rapidly eroding as a result of the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict.
